BHAIRAV KUNDA TREK OVERVIEW
This trek is the best trek in Nepal that begins after your arrival in Kathmandu and a scenic drive to Jalbire, the starting point of the trek. The route to this trek goes through the beautiful green forest, terraced fields, and lovely valleys such as Chanute, Khani Gaon, Forest Camp, and Pati. As you trek through the dense forests, you may encounter some wildlife like red pandas and Himalayan black bears that can be found on the whole Trek.
Bhairav Kunda is situated at an altitude of 4250m in the lap of the Himalayas. It is a holy pilgrimage site for Hindus, Buddhists, and Shamans alike.
It is believed that taking a bath in this holy lake during the full moon of Bhadra washes away mortal sins. After a spiritual visit to this Lake, which is the holy lake and you will hike up to Bhairav Kunda’s viewpoint which offers a stunning panoramic view of Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Gaurishankar Himal (7134m), Langtang Himal (7227m) and Rolwaling Himalayan Ranges.
After this, you will descend to Sherpa Gaon and then to Larcha. There is a natural hot water spring just 30 minutes away from Larcha where you can enjoy a hot soothing bath. From Larcha, you will drive back to Kathmandu marking the end of the incredible trek of Bhairva Kunda. Although this trek can be enjoyed throughout the year, the best time for the Bhairav Kunda trek is during the spring and autumn season when the route is dry and the beautiful snow-capped mountains are clearly visible.

We will receive you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer you to your hotel. In the hotel, there will be a brief orientation about the trek. After that, you can explore nearby areas. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Today, we will drive from Kathmandu to Jalbire, a lovely Newar village situated on the banks of Balephi River. Here, we can visit a Hindu Temple of Lord Bishnu and learn about Newari lifestyle and cultures. The route goes through Dolalghat and Balephi valley alongside the Balephi River. From Balephi valley, rough and dirt road takes you to Jalbire. Overnight in Jalbire.
The real adventure begins today as we begin our trek from Jalbire. The trail to Chanaute goes through beautiful Tamang villages and beautiful waterfalls. Along the way, we will also cross some wooden bridges over water streams. In Chanaute, you can explore the lifestyle and cultures of the local Brahmins and Chhetri whilst enjoying the beautiful view of mountains and hills. Overnight in Chanaute.
After early morning breakfast, we will continue our trek from Chanaute. We will trek along the steep narrow uphill trail so the walk can be a little challenging. Along the way, we will pass by some beautiful villages, terraced fields, and small streams. Khani Gaon is a beautiful Newar village. It is believed that the people from Bhaktapur resettled here during the war with Gorkha. Overnight in Khani Gaon.
Today, instead of trekking, we will stay in Khanigaon and explore the village environs. You can visit the Dalle Pokhari, a beautiful lake in Khani Gaon. You can also indulge in exploring the lifestyle and culture of the local Newar residents. The authentic display of traditions in the village is quite different from the Newar communities elsewhere in Nepal. We will also try delicious and unique Newari cuisine. Overnight in Khani Gaon.
The route to Forest Camp ascends through the steep forest filled with rhododendron, oak, and pine trees. This forest is a habitat to numerous wildlife like red panda and Himalayan black bear and birds like Danphe. If you are lucky, you might spot some of this wildlife along the way. On the way, you will also pass by cow-herders and Sheppard’s huts. Overnight in Forest Camp.
After breakfast, we will continue our trek on a steep narrow trail that passes through the beautiful dense forest of Rhododendron and pine. The trek is uphill and so, we will take it slow. After a tough ascent, you will reach Pati. Pati is a small gorgeous settlement consisting of houses made by pilgrims. From here, the views of the surrounding hills, Rowling and Langtang Mountain ranges are quite blissful. Overnight in Pati.
Leaving Pati, we trek through an uphill path for an hour and level walk for the rest of the trail to reach Bhairav Kunda. It is a pilgrimage site for Buddhist, Hindus, and Shamans. The Bhairav Kunda Lake bears its religious significance from the many references in the ancient religious scriptures and folktales of the respective religions. Near the lake, there is a temple of Bhairav which is also ripe for exploration. This area is visited annually by pilgrims to pay homage to Lord Shiva. Overnight in Bhairav Kunda.
Today, we will wake up early and hike up to Bhairav Kunda viewpoint to view the majestic sunrise over the beautiful mountain range. From there you see Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Gaurishankar (7134m), Langtang Lirung, Jugal, and Rolwaling Himal ranges. Afterward, we will return to camp for breakfast and then descend to Sherpa Gaon. The path to Sherpa Gaon goes steeply through the beautiful forest filled with rhododendron, pines, and oak. Overnight in Sherpa Gaon.
We continue on a descending trail and trek to Larcha through steep narrow path alongside the Bhote Koshi River. After reaching Larcha, we will hike up to the hot spring in Kodari. It is around 30 minutes’ walk from Larcha. Here, we will enjoy a hot soothing bath after an exhausting trek. After a relaxing bath, we will return to Larcha where we will stay overnight.
Today, we will enjoy a scenic drive back to Kathmandu from Larcha. You will be driving back on the Araniko Highway. You can rest in your hotel once you are in Kathmandu. You are also free to explore the streets of Thamel and do some souvenir shopping. Overnight in Kathmandu.
We will drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight. You bid you farewell from the land of the Himalayas. We hope to see you on your next trip.
