Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never rafted before. Is the Trisuli River too aggressive, and where does my big luggage go while I'm on the boat

The Trisuli is perfect for beginners, featuring "pool-and-drop" Grade II/III rapids that are exciting but safe. We provide high-quality life jackets, helmets, and a safety briefing.

I heard there are thousands of stairs to Ulleri. Is it really that hard, and can I take a Jeep instead?

Yes, the climb from Tikhedhunga to Ulleri consists of roughly 3,300 stone steps. It is a steep, 2-hour "stairmaster" workout. While there is now a rough dirt road, we generally recommend walking it to help you acclimatize. However, if you have knee issues or are concerned about fitness, we can arrange a 4x4 Jeep transfer from Nayapul directly to Ulleri. This allows you to skip the hardest climb and start your trek on flatter terrain toward Ghorepani.

Do I really need travel insurance with helicopter rescue for such a low-altitude trek?

Yes, we require it. Even though Poon Hill ($3,210\text{m}$) is not "high altitude" by Himalayan standards, medical issues or ankle injuries can happen anywhere. In Nepal, there are no road ambulances in the mountains; the only way out is by helicopter, which costs $3,000–$5,000. Ensure your policy specifically covers "trekking up to $4,000\text{m}$" and "emergency evacuation." It is a small price for total peace of mind.

Is the sunrise at Poon Hill actually worth the 4:30 AM wake-up, or is it just a tourist trap?

t is the most popular viewpoint in the Annapurnas, so expect crowds (200+ people). However, the view of Dhaulagiri ($8,167\text{m}$) and Annapurna I ($8,091\text{m}$) turning gold is spectacular. To make it "worth it," our guides often suggest staying at the top 20 minutes longer than the crowds. Most people rush down for breakfast at 7:00 AM, leaving the viewpoint quiet and perfect for photos just as the light becomes clearest.

What are the toilets and showers like in the teahouses on the Ghorepani route?

In villages like Ghorepani and Ghandruk, standards are relatively high. You will find a mix of Western-style and "squat" toilets. Note that hot showers usually cost an extra $3–$5 because the water is heated by gas or solar. We recommend bringing your own towel and "body wipes" for days when a shower isn't practical. In Kathmandu and Pokhara, we provide 4-star or boutique hotels with private, modern bathrooms and 24/7 hot water.

Is the walk from Ghandruk to Kimche difficult? I’m worried about my knees on the last day.

Not at all. The walk from Ghandruk to Kimche is a gentle, downhill stroll on a wide trail that takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. It is the easiest walking day of the trip. Our vehicle will be waiting for you at the Kimche Jeep stand. From there, it is a 3-hour drive back to Pokhara. We use sturdy 4x4 vehicles because the road from Kimche to the highway is unpaved and can be quite bumpy.

Is 2 days in Chitwan enough for a safari, or is the drive too long to make it worth it?

A 1-night stay is too short, but our 2-night itinerary is perfect. The drive from Pokhara takes about 5–6 hours. By spending two nights, you get a full day for the Jeep Safari, canoe ride, and jungle walk. This gives you the best chance to see Greater One-horned Rhinos and crocodiles.
