Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Everest flight actually worth it if I’m already planning to do the EBC trek later in my trip? Does it just spoil the 'grand reveal' of seeing it from the ground?

In our experience, the perspective is entirely different. On the trek, you see Everest's peak from a distance (like from Kala Patthar) looking up. On the flight, you are at eye-level with the summit. Many of our clients do both because the flight provides a "geography lesson" of the entire range, including Shisha Pangma and Cho Oyu, which you won't see as clearly from the EBC trail. It doesn't spoil the trek; it provides a macro-view that makes your ground-level journey feel even more massive.

What exactly happens if the flight is canceled for weather? Do I get a cash refund right there, or am I stuck with a voucher I can't use?

Transparency is key here: If the flight is canceled by the airline due to weather (common in monsoon or foggy winters), we offer a full refund of the ticket price or a free reschedule for the next day. However, note that "Hotel Transfers" are usually non-refundable once the vehicle has already performed the pickup. We process refunds through the original payment method, which can take 5–7 business days. We always suggest keeping a "buffer morning" in your itinerary specifically for a second attempt if the first is clouded out.

I've read about the safety concerns with Nepalese airlines. How safe are these specific mountain flights compared to the Lukla commuter flights?

It is important to distinguish between "Mountain Flights" and "Lukla Flights." Mountain flights operate out of Kathmandu's main airport (TIA) using larger, twin-engine turboprops like the ATR-72. Unlike the Lukla flight, which involves a high-risk landing on a short, sloped runway, the scenic flight never lands in the mountains, it simply orbits and returns to a full-service international runway. We primarily use Buddha Air or Yeti Airlines for these, as they maintain the most consistent maintenance records for this specific scenic route.

Is a window seat really 'guaranteed' for every single person? I don't want to pay $200+ to stare at the back of someone’s head or an airplane wing.

Yes, for this specific tour, we only book airlines that fly at 50% capacity to ensure every passenger has an actual window. However, a practical tip: ask for a seat in the very front or the very back. Seats directly over the wing (usually mid-cabin) can slightly obstruct your downward view of the glaciers. The plane also does a full loop, so it doesn't matter which side you sit on initially; the mountains will appear on both sides at different stages of the flight.

Can I bring my full camera gear and a carry-on, and what time will I realistically be back for my international flight out of Nepal?

You can bring a camera bag and a small daypack, but large "roll-aboard" suitcases are not allowed in the cabin of these small aircraft. Regarding timing: although the flight is 1 hour, "Himalayan time" applies. Weather delays are frequent. If you have a 1:00 PM international flight, we do not recommend booking a mountain flight that same morning. You should realistically be back at your hotel by 9:00 AM, but a single fog delay can push that to 11:00 AM, making you miss your connection.

Are there any age limits? I want to take my 70-year-old parents who can't trek but want to see the peaks.

There are no strict age limits. This is actually the best way for seniors or those with physical limitations to experience the Himalayas. The cabin is pressurized, so altitude sickness (AMS) is not a risk as it would be on the ground. We provide full "door-to-door" assistance, meaning our driver will walk your parents through the terminal to the gate. The only physical requirement is the ability to climb a few steps into the small aircraft.
