The Panchase Trek is a short and comfortable hill trek in the Annapurna region, located west of Pokhara. It is known for gentle walking, forested ridges, traditional villages, and wide Himalayan views without the physical strain of high-altitude trekking. The trail stays below 2,100 meters, making it suitable for trekkers who want mountain scenery without altitude risk.
This trek is best suited for first-time trekkers, families, senior travelers, and those with limited time in Nepal. It is also ideal for travelers who prefer cultural interaction, village life, and nature walks over long and demanding mountain passes. It may not be ideal for trekkers seeking snow trekking, glaciers, or extreme high-altitude challenges.
From my experience guiding this route, the highlight is the peaceful walking through rhododendron forests and Gurung villages, combined with early morning views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Dhaulagiri from Panchase Bhanjyang. Walking days are moderate, trails are well-used by locals, and accommodation is simple but comfortable.
The trek starts from Pokhara after a short drive to the trailhead at Khade Khola or nearby village roads. From there, the trail gradually climbs through terraced farmland, forest paths, and stone steps used daily by villagers. The route passes through Bhumdi, Panchase Bhanjyang, Bhadaure, Dhampus, and small settlements before descending back toward Pokhara.
Each day brings a change in scenery. Lower sections include rice fields and river crossings, while higher sections offer forested ridges and open viewpoints. The terrain is mostly dirt trail and stone steps, with no technical sections. During spring, rhododendron forests are especially impressive.
Teahouses are simple village lodges run by local families. Meals are freshly cooked, mainly dal bhat, noodles, soups, and seasonal vegetables. Rooms are basic with twin beds, blankets, and shared bathrooms. The comfort level is modest but clean and reliable for this region.
