PHOKSUNDO LAKE TREK OVERVIEW
The 11-day long Trek commences with a short flight to Nepalgunj. Another soothing flight over the lush hills takes you to Juphal. At Juphal, the cool air invites you to an adventure. As you make your way through the banks of the Bheri River, you’ll reach the starting point of the Trek, Dunai. Go through mud houses and waterfalls to arrive at the ancient settlement of Chhepka.
Interact with the beaming locals here and learn more about their culture. On day 5, we rest at the Jharana Hotel and which is the final stop before the Phoksundo Lake Trek. Soothe your senses in the sight of the waterfall while sipping some warm tea. Arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport and meet our representative who will transfer you to your hotel. You can indulge in light exploration of the city for the rest of the day. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Today we shall head to Nepalgunj. It is a business center in the western Terai and also a major transport hub. The flight takes us an hour to fly over the diverse array of geography of Nepal. Upon arrival in Nepalgunj, we shall head to our hotel. At afternoon, we can visit the Bageshwori temple. Overnight in Nepalgunj.
We begin the day with a short flight to the hillside village of Juphal. The flight lasts for around 20 minutes and, later, we shall collect our stuff and start the trek. We need to walk on the banks of the Bheri River and pass the Rupgad. Trekking through numerous small settlements, we continue past Dhupichaur to reach Dunai, the headquarters of Dolpa. The trail for the day commands that we reach Chhepka. Our path takes us through the banks of the Suli River and passes Raktang on the way. We need to cross the forested trail and walk through wide meadows. Following the Phoksundo Khola, the trek gains a significant altitude to reach Rechi. From Rechi, a steady walk along the ridges of a hill to reach Samduwa. Jharana Hotel is a short distance away from Samduwa. This is a popular resting point used by many on the Phoksundo Lake Trek. The trail for the day involves heading to the major highlight of this trek, the Phoksundo Lake. We descend steeply through the forests and upper parts of the Phoksundo Khola. After we cross a bridge and get our permits checked, we arrive at the Phoksundo Lake. The lake is turquoise in color and it reflects the nearby mountains and hills in a perfect harmony. Our day will be spent on exploring the premises near the Phoksundo Lake. The Phoksundo Lake is the deepest lake in Nepal. We can catch glimpses of the flora and fauna residing here. We can also relish at the sight of the Kanjirowa Himal (6612m). We can visit the ancient Buddhist monasteries around the lake premise. There are a few monasteries belonging to the Bon Po religion as well. Overnight in Phoksundo Lake.
Our road leads us to the amazing Shyanta village. The trail takes us through steep paths and we can get amazing view of the Phoksundo Lake. We take a quick break in Chhepka and, after walking a bit ahead, we arrive at Shyanta. It is a sparsely populated village and the residents here mostly follow Tibetan Buddhism. Overnight in Shyanta.
Our trail takes us along the banks of the Bheri River and outside the Shey Phoksundo National Park. Passing Suligad Ghat, we move forward to reach Dunai. We finally arrive at Juphal after passing Motipur and Kalagauda. Enjoy the rest of the day exploring the town vicinity and observe the lifestyle of the local residents. Overnight in Juphal.
Today, we take two flights in order to reach Kathmandu. The first flight is mostly early in the morning so, prepare accordingly. After having lunch in Nepalgunj, we shall fly to Kathmandu. Over the span of these two flights, we fly over the diverse geography that Nepal boasts of. In Kathmandu, you can indulge in light exploration and souvenir shopping. Overnight in Kathmandu.
